Reading Seminar 1 - Thoughts and notes

Reading thoroug the material males you realise that the road from start to finish on a project like this is far from straight. There are however many tips and tricks that will make the process more efficient.
Before starting on a project, thorough preparations are needed. It is most crucial to have a good understanding of the target group and the problem space. Obviously the problem space is different to different target groups but it can be pinpointed through contextual observation.
One example are interviews. What is it that the users are looking for? How do they want to interact with the product? What goals should this product achieve for them? This information can then be used when conceptualizing. The book puts an emphasis on this since a core understanding of not only what you're creating but also WHY, can be of major help to solve later arising problems. Although a lot of the focus is on identifying and understanding needs, it is also very important to keep in mind terms such as efficiency and usability when conceptualizing. So that when your produce a prototype it is understood in the manner intended.
Finally, don't forget that a project like this is never 100 % finished. The evaluation process is an iterative process that not only continues during the project but even after it's finished. It is always important to keep an open mind as to what can be improved.

Question: At what stage/level of understanding could you start prototyping? How much time should be spent on prototyping?
